IMCARBON

Environmental pollution is one of the most threatening problems in our world today and our water resources are also affected by environmental pollution. We wanted to contribute to the solution of this problem and developed our IMCarbon project. For our IMCarbon project, we turned the waste food generated in the cafeteria of our school into activated carbon balls by applying heat treatment at 300 degrees for 2 days in the ovens in the laboratory of our school. We left our activated carbon balls in Denizli Pond, which is used by many living species but polluted by human activities. With our activated carbon balls, we succeeded in both cleaning this water source and utilising our food waste. We have been featured in the bulletin many times with the success of our IMCarbon project. In our interviews, we explained the details of our work and the success of the project. Later in our project, we created a curriculum about the use of activated carbon balls and how they clean the environment and introduced it to the schools around us. This season, we plan to improve our carbon balls and go to Sapanca Lake, which plays an important role in meeting the water needs of the Marmara Region, at the end of October.
